    A: When moving from a traditional telephone service the steps are:
  • Liaise with GTL to ensure you have the right choice of plan & equipment
  • Confirm which telephone numbers are to move to VoIP & notify curent provider
  • Install VoIP telephones and equipment on site or DYI installation
  • Test equipment and network connection with GTL NOC
  • Train users
  • Port telephone numbers to VoIP service & decommission PBX equipment.
  • NB. If GTL decommission your existing PBX. We''ll dispose of it with E-Waste NZ

    Manged networks provide a direct network path with QOS - a IP mechanism to proritise VoIP traffic. Improving speech quality and providing network monitoring. Check our Managed Networks page
    If you have an existing Samsung PBX with Samsung IP phones, then GTL Networks can re-format your existing telephones to work on GTL Cloud. So you will save on not needing to purchase new handsets. GTL can even refurbish & refresh your existing handsets in the process!

    Yes. If your phones are STD SIP compliant then most likely than can connect. Common SIP IP phones in NZ are:
  • Yealink
  • Snom
  • Gigaset
  • Cisco - various models only
  • Polycom
  • No. If your phones are ex PBX phones they most likely will not connect. Common PBX IP phone brands in NZ are:
  • Alcatel
  • Avaya - limited models are SIP compliant
  • Nortel
  • NEC
  • Samsung - limited models & firmware are SIP compliant

    That's not an easy question. There are so many possible makes & models of broadband routers that we can't possibly cover them all. However there are dos & don'ts regarding routers for VoIP connections
  • DOs:
  • Disable 'SIP ALG' or 'SIP IP Helper' on your router
  • Ensure your router is capable of 'Port Forwarding' (normally not required)
  • 'AC' Wifi is preferred for Wifi phones but 'n' is also suitable
  • Don'ts:
  • Generally routers that have built-in ATA (analog telephone adapter) ports can be problematic
  • Generally 'free' routers from internet carriers are not up to the job of VoIP. However it pays to check.
  • Entry level Router/Modem makes that are recommended for basic VoIP use are: (in our opinion) (NB. does not apply to every model)

    A: When you register for GTL Cloud VoIP service you'll be given a user group & realm to connect via along with a user name & password.
  • You'll need to be able to access the IP phones configuration settings.
  • Proxy Address - this will be the realm address advised by GTL
  • User Name - Assigned by GTL
  • Password - Assigned by GTL
  • All other settings are STD SIP compliant

  • A: SIP account is a single registration to a SIP telephone service. There may be multiple registrations required from a single IP Phone. Eg.
  • 1 Account connects as your corporate PBX ext
  • 1 connects as your SOHO office telephone No.
  • 1 connects as your Home No
  • Total 3 SIP accounts used
    A: ‘Electronic Hook Switch’. With EHS the headset device controls the state of the telephone. So you can answer or release calls by pressing the relevant button on the EHS headset Eliminates the requirements for add-on 'Lifters' etc
    Purchase IP telephones from GTL for use on GTL Cloud VoIP telephony or Hosted cloud PBX plans & we will pre-configure your account to register & setup your phones automatically.
  • Simply connect the phone to your internet router and in a few minutes you'll be ready to go.
  • NB. Wifi phones will require access password upon first connection
    A: ‘Power over Ethernet’.
  • IP phones require power to operate. Using POE switches and POE compliant devices eliminates the requirement for local power packs at the device location by supplying power via the network connection.v
